    *April 2010 Update
In recent months, the Memphis community has been fortunate to secure a number of addtional funds that should drastically improve the Memphis School community.  This past November, MCS accepted a $90 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to help shore up and retain its teaching corps.  Additionally, MCS was awarded over $67 million as part of the Race to the Top package provided to the state of Tennessee.  Both sources of funding should provide invaluable capital for superintendent Kriner Cash’s efforts to reform the city’s schools.
