SUMMARY:20th Annual City Auto Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival
DESCRIPTION:    The 20th Annual City Auto Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival will take place Sunday\, April 15\, from noon to 6 p.m. at Wagner Place\, between Union Avenue and Beale Street in downtown Memphis.    The event will feature live Cajun and zydeco music\, 15\,000 pounds of crawfish\, food and drink vendors\, crawfish races\, eating contests and a gumbo cook-off featuring 24 teams.    The 20th Annual City Auto Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival benefits Porter-Leath\, a 160-year-old\, Memphis-based non-profit organization that serves more than 10\,000 at-risk children and families each year. Its programs include residential services\, foster & adoptive care\, early childhood & parent education\, senior services and more. In 2011\, this festival boasted 19\,000 attendees and raised $120\,000 for Porter-Leath.

SUMMARY:Lifeblood's Donor Fest 2012
DESCRIPTION:    Lifeblood\, the region’s only full-service\, non-profit blood center will host Donor Fest 2012\, a week-long event to increase blood donations during the summer.    The event will take place Monday\, June 11 through Saturday\, June 16 at each of the Lifeblood’s donor centers\, culminating with a celebration for Lifeblood’s donors on Saturday\, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Audubon Park\, at Southern and Perkins Extended\, in East Memphis.    Donations can be made at any of Lifeblood’s six donor centers\, which will open for business at their regularly scheduled hours but will stay open extended hours to help Lifeblood reach its goal of 1\,500 donors.    The summer is often the most difficult time for Lifeblood\, as the need for blood is high but donations are low. To counteract this\, Lifeblood is scheduling a week-long blitz at its donor centers in hopes of encouraging new\, regular and lapsed donors to give blood. Refreshments and limited edition 2012 Donor Fest T-shirts will be provided to each person who donates blood during the week of June 11-16. Additionally\, a mobile bus will be available on Saturday\, June 16 at the celebration for those who wish to donate on that day. The June 16th celebration will include food\, music\, magic shows\, balloon animals\, face painting\, kids activities\, donor recognition and more. No pets\, please. Focus is on the characters who hang out at Memphis Lee's coffee shop: a local sage\, an elderly man who imparts wisdom as learned from a 322 year old sage\, an ex con\, a numbers runner\, a waitress who slashed her legs to keep men away\, and a retarded man who was once cheated out of a ham. The play is a microcosm of an era and a community on the brink of change. SUMMARY:Houdini to Hugo: The Art of Brian Selznick 
DESCRIPTION:From Houdini to Hugo presents over 100 pencil illustrations\, pen and ink drawings\, acrylics and models by the award-winning children’s author and illustrator\, Brian Selznick.    In his youth\, Brian Selznick lived out some of his fantasies on the fortressed "Island of G.I. Joe\," built in the thicket behind his house. He loved Star Wars and old films\, including The Wizard of Oz\, 1950s science fiction flicks\, and monster movies — particularly The Phantom of the Opera and King Kong. Childhood experiments with theatrical makeup inspired one of his future books\, The Boy of a Thousand Faces. Today\, Selznick still constructs the worlds of his imagination\, filling his studio with sculptures\, handcrafted puppets\, and dioramas.    Selznick attended the Rhode Island School of Design and studied set design at neighboring Brown University. After graduating\, he worked at Eeyore's Books for Children\, in Manhattan\, where his contacts included book editors\, picture book artists\, authors\, and a knowledgeable staff. He wrote and illustrated his first book\, The Houdini Box (1991)\, while working at the store. He received a 2002 Caldecott Honor for The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins and was awarded the 2008 Caldecott Medal for his innovative\, cinematic The Invention of Hugo Cabret\, a 526-page book told in words and pictures — nearly 300 pages of pictures! — that he both authored and illustrated\, and which is now being made into a film directed by Martin Scorsese.    This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature\, Abilene\, Texas.

DESCRIPTION:LUVMUD is a benefit 5k mud race with obstacles and a mud pit. The race supports Habitat for Hope\, a non-profit organization that is a committed group of volunteers and staff who work to form community around families who have traveled to the mid-south to receive medical care for their children.    On Saturday there will be a Family Fest where children can play\, run\, dance in bounce houses\, bang on some drums\, take a paddle board lesson\, take a paddle boat ride\, and even go fishing.
