I am proud to call myself a native Memphian, especially after I spent some time living and working in Charleston, South Carolina and Berkeley, California. I love these two cities but life in Memphis just has its own juicy, spicy flavor. I currently spend my days (and some nights) as the manager of marketing and communications for ArtsMemphis, a 46-year-old non-profit fundraising organization for the arts in Memphis. We provide support to 27 diverse and thriving arts groups, arts education programming in Memphis City Schools, and administer ticket subsidies so that students and families in our community can experience the arts. ArtsMemphis also presents the annual Bravo Memphis membership program, a full season of arts events for young creatives in Memphis. I encourage you to check out Bravo and get connected to the arts and your peers. I am, obviously, passionate about the arts. I also enjoy any time spent outside, time spent with my English bulldog, trying new venues in Memphis, and traveling when my wallet can handle it.

- Randall Hartzog, Director of Marketing and Communications for Theatre Memphis, recently wrote the following story about a character who has been a part of the beloved Theatre Memphis production of A Christmas Carol for 20 years but has never been seen until the curtain has closed. How is this possible? The character in question [...]

If you are into flying monkeys, cackling witches and silly scarecrows, you don’t have to wait for Halloween to come back around next year. ArtsMemphis is now hosting a rave! Well, sort of. The Rants & Ravers is a group of community leaders, art experts, and interesting people who are engaged in and enjoy the arts.  Read what they have to say about current plays, exhibits, and arts events.  Choose your favorite and feel free to respond to their [...]

If you haven’t heard of RocktoberFest 09 yet, it’s probably because this year’s event  is the first ever rock-your-socks-off celebration at the Germantown Performing Arts Centre…or because your Facebook account has dust on it. Always on the forefront of things new and exciting, GPAC is reaching out to the young and fabulous by hosting an [...]

Whether you will be sporting Blue and Gray or Red and Blue this Sunday, there is a lot of excitement in the air about the start of college football! I know I am usually advocating artistic homegrown goodness on this blog, but this really does apply…just give me a second. First, there is nothing more [...]

If you haven’t been in a local YMCA since you played church league basketball,  you have been missing out. I have been a member of the YMCA in Memphis and one in California, and it will take an army to get me to change my membership anytime soon. Despite the cheesy disco-era song and memories [...]

On Thursday, August 27 from 6:30 – 9:00 Bravo Memphis will join forces with the businesses of Huling Row to present a party like none other. Admission is free, beer is free, food is free, and fun is a sure thing…as long as you are over 21. With the street blocked off between Main and [...]

I was never a stellar student, so I learned most of my American and European history through the arts. This served me well as tests were never my thing, and it kept me interested in what happened in the world. Whether you are a history buff or not, anyone should be able to appreciate the [...]
