Two excellent organizations combine forces to create the perfect springtime family afternoon. I’ll be taking the girls (I hope that they’ll allow me to help with the bracelet making).  Hope to see you there! I get such a bizarre sense of satisfaction knowing that every spring zombies wander the streets of downtown Memphis. Yes, sure, I love horror movies and Halloween, but the annual Memphis Zombie Walk is as much performance art as it is homage to Romero or Fulci. I imagine we’ll watch Friday’s march from afar to [...]

Last week I posted about the Riverfront Development Corporation’s Mud Island Land Use Study public forum process, and about the growing momentum for a skatepark. Especially considering the success of last Friday’s skate jam at the FedEx Forum, I’m excited to share part 2 of a skater Kris Gurley’s perspective on the Memphis skatepark movement: [...]

Last week we attended the fourth and final Round 1 public input meeting for the Mud Island Land Use Study. In short, this was an everyone-is-invited gathering at the Botanic Gardens during which residents could brainstorm and vote on the amenties and activities we’d like to see on Mud Island. Although there to voice our [...]

After a somewhat lazy Saturday morning, Ian asked unexpectedly if we’d be interested in eating at Brother Juniper’s. And it’s a good thing that he did, because I’d forgotten just how much I like the food and atmosphere. What we did not like – especially with a 3 year old in tow – was the [...]

Not long ago, I posted a YouTube video of the one and only Sister Myotis. She graced the Theatreworks stage last weekend – and the MemphisConnect.com launch after party with some thong panties – and is now headed into the final performances of her Church Retreat. If you haven’t seen Sister Myotis with Ima Lone [...]

I never stopped to think of the consequences of life without a large-scale pillow fight, but thanks to Caroline Allen – and Facebook – I will never have to. As Caroline explained in a video by Dave Barger, she thought that the community pillow fights she’d seen in other cities were pretty darn cool, and [...]

I want to think that, in half a lifetime in Memphis, I’ve unearthed a great deal of this city’s hidden treasures. But how lucky for me to be reminded that there is always something unique and amazing to discover! I recently had lunch with the esteemed Ken Hall, who introduced me to a delicious and [...]
