Elizabeth Lemmonds is passionate about the organizations that shape Memphis' character, and position it as a magnet for creative talent. She is currently the Director of Communications and Marketing for The Leadership Academy, where she lifts stories of community action, initiative, and accomplishment through both traditional and emerging media. As the Executive Director of Lantana Projects, and as the inaugural New Media Marketing Coordinator for the Orpheum Theatre, Elizabeth creatively employed online social media services in order to increase the visibility and accessibility of arts organizations. Elizabeth has been quoted in CEOs for Cities, the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Business Journal, and the Daily News on the arts, creative class, and new media. Elizabeth's community involvement extends beyond her professional career. She has volunteered and participated on various ad hoc committees for UrbanArt, ArtsMemphis, LaunchMemphis, and Hands On Memphis. She has also recently joined the board of Voices of the South. Elizabeth lives near midtown with her husband, Ian, and daughters Ripley and Flannery. She is also the administrator for MemphisConnect.com.

We’ve been Memphis Zoo members for quite a while- after all, for $99 per year we can spend any given day meandering through the animals and exhibits, or can simply stop by for an hour when Flannery feels like seeing the pandas and riding the carousel. It’s a deal we can’t refuse, especially at Trip [...]

Sister Myotis is taking her Bible Camp – and sidekicks Velma Needlemeyer and Ima Lone – to New York City’s Abingdon Theatre from June 11-July 4. And we only have two opportunities to see the foundress of the Honeybees Ladies Auxiliary before she takes on the big city: Sister Myotis Bible Camp (as close to [...]

The irrepressible Sister Myotis is heading to New York City- can I get an AMEN? Memphis’ own Sister Myotis is headed to New York City’s Abingdon Theatre in June. Let’s help her get there! Come to South of Beale on Wednesday, May 5 from 5-7pm for a chance to contribute to the cause – over [...]

Once a year, the living dead prey upon downtown Memphis. Be forewarned that this year’s Zombie Walk will be May 28. More to come soon, but if you’re dying of curiosity you can check out my post on Zombie Walk 2009, or visit the Memphis Zombies Facebook page.

Our family’s official out-of-town vacation won’t come until fall, but with recent gorgeous weather we decided that we should take a vacation day to play downtown tourist for a day. You know, to check out the places that visitors adore but that we tend to take for granted. First on the agenda was-where else?-the Peabody [...]

A few months ago I had the privilege of posting an exclusive MemphisConnect Q&A with veteran Memphis punk band Pezz, just before their mini tour with the Meat Puppets. As Pezz is part of the Grammy Showcase lineup at the Hi Tone on April 16, I thought it would be the perfect time for Q&A [...]

Some of my most sentimental memories center around the Orpheum. I remember taking Ripley to her first show, CATS at the tender age of five. She was wowed from the moment we stepped into the glittering lobby- you can only imagine her excitement when she saw a stage full of Jellicle cats! Fast forward ten [...]

Sorry for the last minute notice, but Sneak Peek yet again brings something fresh to South Main- this time it’s a meet and greet with the New Boyz, totally free and open to the public. Definitely a reason to take off a little early on a gorgeous Friday afternoon. From Sneak Peek: If word hasn’t [...]

I recently learned of Operation Broken Silence, a local organization that is involved with- among other things -charity:water, a nonprofit  featured on CNN,  Forbes and the New York Times. From their site: Almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean drinking water. That’s one in eight of us. charity: water is [...]

We all know that Playhouse on the Square is one of Memphis’ most creatively brilliant organizations. What I recently learned from Irene Crist and Andrew Moore was that when Jackie Nichols formed the company in 1969 it was located in a home-turned-ballet-company near the University of Memphis, and was fueled by little more than passion [...]
