Elizabeth Lemmonds

Elizabeth Lemmonds is passionate about the organizations that shape Memphis' character, and position it as a magnet for creative talent. She is currently the Director of Communications and Marketing for The Leadership Academy, where she lifts stories of community action, initiative, and accomplishment through both traditional and emerging media. As the Executive Director of Lantana Projects, and as the inaugural New Media Marketing Coordinator for the Orpheum Theatre, Elizabeth creatively employed online social media services in order to increase the visibility and accessibility of arts organizations. She has also been a founding partner in Mouse Foundry Media, a trainer for International Paper's supply chain initiative, and an instructor at the University of Memphis. Elizabeth has been quoted in CEOs for Cities, the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Business Journal, and the Daily News on the arts, creative class, and new media. Elizabeth's community involvement extends beyond her professional career. She has volunteered and participated on various ad hoc committees for UrbanArt, ArtsMemphis, LaunchMemphis, and Hands On Memphis. She has also recently joined the board of Voices of the South. Elizabeth lives near midtown with her husband, Ian, and daughters Ripley and Flannery. She is also the administrator for MemphisConnect.com.

Our little BumbleBee Girl has been ready to hit the town in her Halloween costume for a couple of weeks now. Luckily our neighborhood retains some vestige of trick-or-treating as well as a costume party, but we’re open to additional opportunities to dress Flannery up and let her beg for candy. Mere minutes of investigating [...]

I finally succumbed to the cult of iPhone. Not so much because of the gorgeous screen resolution nor the ridiculously smooth navigation, but because the apps are too cool (even bordering on sci fi) to resist any longer. When I recently tweeted about local spots to buy diesel, I was reminded that there is an [...]

I had the pleasure of meeting Karen Morgan, Director of Program Development for South Memphis Alliance (SMA), at a Better Brains for Babies training at Urban Child Institute. Though somewhat accidental (she had a free spot at her table for lunch) our meeting definitely was fortuitous: I was moved by her passion for and dedication [...]

Although it might not get quite the attention as music and barbecue, the Memphis art scene is one of our community’s top assets, packed with talent and diversity. And, clearly, heart. Some of our top artists have contributed work in support of worthy causes this weekend: Art for Earth’s Sake Friday, August 30 from 6-9pm [...]

Founded in 2003, Republic Coffee at 2924 Walnut Grove is a locally owned coffee shop and cafe that is committed to both providing quality products and supporting their community. In their own words, … our main goal is to bring to market world class coffees and truly exceptional food. We are purveyors of the world [...]

Whether shopping at a market like Viet Hoa or eating at a treasure like La Guadalupana, Mayuri or Abyssinia, it is difficult to ignore the richness that the international community adds to our local culture. With that in mind I am excited to share this event from my friends at Memphis Catholic Charities and hope [...]

I moved to Memphis 20 years ago. Legendary local punk band Pezz is celebrating their 20th anniversary this weekend. I’m getting terribly nostalgic right about now, thinking back on the good ole days of the Antenna, Howard’s Donuts, Decadence Manor… Life – and Memphis – have certainly changed in the past 20 years, but I’m [...]

“I would like for my work to uplift others and possess something that people can take to help them through the different seasons in life’s journey.” – Darlene Newman I first had the privilege of meeting visual artist Darlene Newman a few years ago at a Lantana Projects event, and have been a fan of [...]

The Church Health Center – with its mission to provide healthcare for the poor and promote healthy bodies and spirits for all – is a Memphis treasure, and a number of local musicians know it. Every year they lend their talent to one of our community’s coolest fundraising events: Rock for Love, to benefit the [...]

The Memphis community offers some fabulous opportunities for families, and Voices of the South’s annual Children’s Theatre Festival at the Rhodes College McCoy Theatre ranks at the top of my list.  The 2010 CTF offers the premiere of THE KALLAHONEY KIDS VS. THE SHADOW MONSTERS, an original play by Memphis’ own Geoff Wood. A milk [...]
