I have gone far too long without professing my love of Viet Hoa Food Market here on MemphisConnect. Located on Cleveland in midtown, both products and patrons highlight some of our community’s global diversity. Some of the market’s unique offerings include dragon fruit, mung bean ice bars, spiced coconut vinegar and eels. One of my [...]

As our weekends have been packed lately, I recognize that it’s time to dust off the weekly rundown of family activities in the Memphis area. There is no shortage of options this weekend, whether you’re up for ice skating or skateboarding, art or the art of jookin. Seriously- while all of the below are fabulous, [...]

I had the privilege of hearing Gayle Rose speak at a Leadership Academy Celebrate What’s Right luncheon about her late son, Max, and his legacy of compassion, humility and community action that inspired a movement of ‘vigilante philanthropy.’ Below is a WMC Taking Back Our Neighborhoods feature about Max Rose, who before his untimely death [...]

More family coolness this weekend! Enjoy the Nutcracker or a multicultural Nut ReMix… the Germantown holiday parade… Santa in a helicopter, a North Pole Cafe or at the oldest fine arts museum in Tennessee… and if you want to diversify a bit, there’s a Family Studio at the Dixon, the Circus at FedEx Forum, and [...]

I never cease to be amazed at the wealth of family-friendly opportunities throughout the greater Memphis area each weekend. Of course, this season is even more full due to such holiday traditions as Ballet Memphis Nutcracker, the Memphis Holiday Parade and Starry Nights. And can I count Rock N Romp as a tradition yet?? It’s [...]

I recently posted about our family’s adoration of Books from Birth, through which all Shelby County children can receive free monthly books from birth until age 5. As Family Literacy Month winds down I’d like to share a bit about another amazing organization that is putting books into the hands of children who need them [...]

I am struggling with my weekend schedule already: I very much need to do some pre-Thanksgiving housecleaning, but there are so many family-friendly and uniquely Memphis events to keep us busy! And, well, who wouldn’t prefer Santa to scouring… Hope to see you at any of the below! A New Face on Old Broad November [...]

Lots of kid-friendly opportunities this weekend, whether you’re ready to start the holiday season, seeking an outlet for your budding artists, or hoping to take advantage of this unusually warm November weather. No matter your interests (or budget), there is family fun to be had! Magic Carpet Ride: Russian Ballet at the Buckman Arts Center [...]

In honor of Family Literacy Month, I must take a moment to share how much Shelby County’s Books from Birth program has meant to bedtime. Flannery’s bedtime, to be more specific. Books from Birth is the local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and a partner of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation. They provide [...]

This isn’t even a holiday weekend and Memphis is yet again jam-packed with opportunities to get out and have fun with your families. And pretty much everything listed below is under $10! I’ll add my own testimonial that Rock N Romp is one of the best parts of being a parent in Memphis, but you’ll [...]
