I never stopped to think of the consequences of life without a large-scale pillow fight, but thanks to Caroline Allen – and Facebook – I will never have to. As Caroline explained in a video by Dave Barger, she thought that the community pillow fights she’d seen in other cities were pretty darn cool, and [...]

I want to think that, in half a lifetime in Memphis, I’ve unearthed a great deal of this city’s hidden treasures. But how lucky for me to be reminded that there is always something unique and amazing to discover! I recently had lunch with the esteemed Ken Hall, who introduced me to a delicious and [...]

We just purchased a family membership – a huge bargain at only $79 – [...]

What began as a movie obsession evolved into a love of MTV’s In Search of Elle Woods and a steadfast determination to see the musical comedy performed live. At least, that is the source [...]

Their first annual Old Forest Jamboree will be held at the Hi Tone, and admission is a $10 donation to CPOP. The doors to this all-ages [...]

I hate that I missed Eric Schosser’s Fast Food Nation lecture and booksigning last week, as sponsored by the Marcus W. Orr Center for the Humanities and the River City Writers Series. I console myself with the fact that I can still attend Fast Food Women on Monday, March 2. Pertinent information is below, but it’s [...]

At the risk of showing my age, I remember dozens of fans swarming UM campus around Tom Cruise’s trailer when The Firm was being filmed. That is only one of many films that Memphis has hosted (with similar zeal)… although I did not realize just how many was “many” until I visited The Memphis & Shelby County Film and [...]
