Trezevant, 177 N. Highland, has been named an Arthritis Foundation flagship facility, making it the first and only senior community in Tennessee to receive this designation.

To achieve flagship status, certification is required in four programs—Aquatics, Land, Walk with Ease, and Tai Chi. Each of Trezevant’s four fitness instructors obtained certification in one or more of these programs by attending workshops and training, adjusting existing classes and adding new ones, as well as documenting releases, schedules and attendees for the foundation’s review, all over the course of a year.

“We take our residents’ health to heart,” said Rinnie Wood, fitness director at Trezevant. “Our goal is to foster an environment that helps residents have the highest possible quality of life. The Arthritis Foundation has afforded us the opportunity to both brighten spirits while improving and increasing physical movement, key elements to enhancing the health of those who take part in these new programs.”

Nearly seventy percent of the 30 fitness classes taught at Trezevant now meet the Arthritis Foundation’s guidelines, emphasizing slow movements focused on stretching, joint rotation and building strength, balance and cardiovascular health in a safe, relaxed environment. To maintain flagship status, classes will be taught on a permanent basis at Trezevant.
