On August 12th, the Land Use Control Board approved the Midtown District Overlay, which is a plan to make midtown more pedestrian friendly. The overlay must now go to the city council for approval.  The Overlay which if approved by the city council will set requirements ranging from the distances from the road that new buildings will have to be, all the way to which roads trucks can travel through the area, all in an attempt to make the midtown area safer  and more attractive to pedestrians. The Land Use Control Board also recently rejected a plan from CVS Pharmacy to demolish the Union Ave. Methodist Church at Union and Cooper, however, CVS is appealing the rejection.

It is important, as a citizen of the city of Memphis, that you let your voice be heard.  Regardless of your position, please show up on August 24th at 3:30pm to let your elected officials know how you feel about the Midtown Overlay and its impact on the future of Midtown development.
