Miss Opportunity Episode #1: Off the Wall

I don’t know about you, but July’s been a hell of a month. And I mean that in terms of both the heat and every thing that’s gone on since my first entry. In that time I…

…ate the most interesting looking sushi dish known to man at The Daq Cigar and Sushi Bar

That chopstick looks like it's going up my nose.

…went to my first rooftop party at The Peabody…

…made seared black cod with kaffir lime coconut broth at Viking Cooking School’s Superfoods Workshop…

…got my hair straightened for the first time in five years (a huge deal)…

…had my first bubble tea at Chang’s

…and celebrated my 29th birthday at Mollie Fontaine Lounge. Those photos and the ones of me and my friends performing Prince’s greatest hits at The Blue Monkey are not for public consumption.

It’s been nice to not be bored, fun even, but believe me it’s work. Just like convincing yourself to stay at home is a habit, so I convincing yourself to live life off the wall. I have to remember it’s OK to be at home every once in a while. Then again, there are worse problems than having a good time.

I’m bobbing and weaving my way through blogging about my exploits, and I’m still getting the hang of documenting things in words and images. I can cobble a few grafs together, but I’ve done a pretty mediocre job of photographing what I’m doing while I’m doing it. That makes the writing tougher when the point is to show and tell. The weird case of shutterbug shyness I suffered while flying solo at the Flipside Memphis premiere had me bugged for a minute because I couldn’t bring myself to take photos while hanging out alone. Had it not been for some chatty transplants from Detroit I probably would’ve run away from the Flipside event, never to return. Memphis is best experienced with a crew, and I think most people here roll that way anyway. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

GI Joe PSA moment over, what’s the skinny for this week Memphis? I hear there’s a pretty sweet opportunity to exercise your right to vote on Thursday. Aside from the important task of participating in democracy, what else is popping?
