Take a look through MemphisConnect and you’ll understand why the 100+ diverse voices represented are all inspired to call Memphis home.

Although it might not get quite the attention as music and barbecue, the Memphis art scene is one of our community’s top assets, packed with talent and diversity. And, clearly, heart. Some of our top artists have contributed work in support of worthy causes this weekend:
Friday, August 30 from 6-9pm at Marshall Arts (639 Marshall Avenue)
Local artist and art teacher Emily Walls (and she’s fantastic- we have two of her pieces on our walls!) has spearheaded Art for Earth’s Sake, an art auction++ to benefit the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund. Local art rock stars including Greely Myatt, Tad Lauritzen Wright, Mel Spillman, Terri Jones and Alex Warble have donated pieces for the auction, and the evening will include entertainment from Bryan Hartley, Holly Cole, DJ Antonio Quinn and others. There will even be food from Tsunami, the HiTone, Fuel Cafe and Sekisui- and did I mention that the event is free? Well, other than the art you will undoubtedly purchase…
Sunday, August 1 from 4-7pm at the MGLCC (892 S. Cooper)
The Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center invites you to join GLBT artists and allies for a community art show. The show will open at the MGLCC on August 1st and work will be on display through August 6th. The group exhibition will include drawings, watercolor, photography, mixed media and more- truly something for everyone. Select artists will donate a portion of their sales to the MGLCC in their mission to be a mechanism for change in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to facilitate long-term positive growth in themselves and in the community of the Mid-South.

MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
