Teton Trek at the Memphis Zoo

I am a huge fan of zoos! Everytime I get a chance to go out of town and they have a zoo, I am there! I love to see different animals living like they would in their natural environment. It is quite fascinating to me. Of all the zoos I have been to, I do believe the Memphis Zoo tops them all. I’m not just saying that because I am from Memphis, but I really do believe the Memphis Zoo has done a great job in displaying many types of animals in their natural habitat. The Memphis Zoo has a variety of animals that I haven’t seen at other zoos. The latest addition to the zoo is the Teton Trek. It opened on October 2, 2009, but this was my first visit to see it. After walking around the zoo in this hot and humid weather, I came up on the Teton Trek lodge. In front of the lodge, there is a water play area with fountains spewing up out of the ground. Perfect for a hot day! I was a little bummed I didn’t wear my bathing suit. I continued on into the beautiful two-story lodge. It was a perfect resting spot and was nice and cool, just what I needed before continuing on into the rest of the exhibit.

After resting I made my way around and first got a view of the wolves. I have never actually seen a wolf or a bear for that matter, except in pictures, until now at the zoo. It is a cool feeling to finally see an animal you have never seen before and I am very appreciative that the Memphis Zoo has given me that experience.

They were definitely a lot bigger than I had expected and dog like too. They looked like big, tall dogs. I next trekked over to the grizzly bears where they were getting nice and cool in the water. Smart animals, those bears! Everyone was gathered around watching the bears play.

So I would highly recommend going to the Memphis Zoo and don’t forget to stop by the Teton Trek while your there! It’s truly a fabulous experience.
