This Saturday, the Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market will host an opening celebration market filled with fresh food, great entertainment and more. Last month we opened up for the first time, and have started building a market that is about more than just fresh produce (though there will be plenty of that) – we hope it will become a vibrant, community gathering place that promotes local food, fosters health and wellness, and helps make affordable, nutritious food more accessible.CYCFM_logo_H

For this week’s market, we are thrilled to welcome Paradise Seafood and Evergreen Montessori School’s gardeners as new additions to the wonderful and growing group of vendors who were with us during our first month. The kids from Evergreen will be selling vegetables they grew themselves in their school’s garden.

Entertainment this Saturday will include music from Lee Booth & Friends and Steve Lockwood, and dance performances by the Mid-South World Dance Center and the Sassie Seniors. In the kids tent, Cheryl Messler from Burke’s Books in Cooper-Young will read stories about gardening and farming.

You can see a full list of the food and artisan crafts that will be at the market this week and each week through the season on cycfarmersmarket.org. You can also follow us on Twitter (@cycfarmersmkt) or find us on Facebook for other updates on the market as we grow.

Come on out to the market celebration this Saturday and meet up with your family, friends and neighbors to enjoy the fresh produce and prepared food, coffee from Otherlands, music and dance, and Dog Valet free dog sitting.

The market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. until October 30 in the First Congregational Church parking lot at the corner of Cooper Street and Walker Avenue. We hope to see you there!
