The Church Health Center – with its mission to provide healthcare for the poor and promote healthy bodies and spirits for all – is a Memphis treasure, and a number of local musicians know it. Every year they lend their talent to one of our community’s coolest fundraising events: Rock for Love, to benefit the CHC.
Hot off the proverbial presses is the announcement that Lucero and Amy LaVere will headline Rock for Love 4 on August 19-21 at the Hi Tone and Shangri La Records.
Roy Berry, drummer for Lucero (featured in Craig Brewer’s $5 Cover), was injured on a recent tour and needed the services of the Church Health Center. He says he’s glad to be able to give back.
“I’ve been treated well by the Church Health Center,” he said. “They definitely provide a valuable service to the community, which includes helping me recently when my jaw was broken. Having recovered, it’s nice to be able to play the Rock for Love benefit and be able give something back to help the service continue for other folks who need it.”
Other bands set to play this year’s benefit include the Dirty Streets, Star and Micey, Oracle and the Mountain, Bulletproof Vests and Glorie. Organizers are finalizing the lineup and more details will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets go on sale June 1 at HiToneMemphis.com. In the meantime, a free download of live tracks from Rock for Love 1 are available at rockforlove.bandcamp.com. And mark your calendar now for August 19-21!
