This past Saturday, May 15, 923 volunteers packaged 150,336 meals for hungry persons in Haiti, through the Christ Feeds ministry of Christ United Methodist Church.
Those who were there still can’t stop talking about this amazing day. “With Christ Feeds we saw a clear demonstration of God’s power through community,” said Scott Lees, Christ Methodist’s Pastor of Community Life. “When the people of God work together, God always exceeds our expectations.” One volunteer, visibly moved by the experience, said, “Today was incredible. I kept getting tears in my eyes with joy. What an amazing day today was. Can’t wait til the next time we can get together and do this again.”
The event was organized and run by a team volunteers with a passion to reach out in God’s name to provide food for hungry persons. Christ Feeds plans to expand to a community-wide effort and plans more food packaging events in the future.
MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
