The Levitt Shell kicks off its Spring 2010 Season with a truly unforgettable show: the final performance ever of the legendary Big Star.
Big Star is a Pop Rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1971 by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens and Andy
Hummel. The band’s musical style drew on the work of British Invasion groups including The Beatles and The Kinks, butwith a unique power pop sound that foreshadowed the alternative rock scene in the 1980s and 1990s. The Big Star discography drew renewed attention in the 1980s when R.E.M. and other popular bands acknowledged its influence. In 1993, Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens reformed Big Star with recruits John Auer and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies.Their first 3 record releases have all been listed in Rolling Stone’s Greatest 500 Albums of All Time.
Doors at 6:00pm / Show begins at 7:00pm / General Admission $20 in advance or $ 25 at the door. VIP Packages $65; include 1 General Admission concert ticket + 1 admission to Soundcheck Party beginning at 4:30 p.m.
