The Vice Chairman of the Memphis & Shelby County Metropolitan Charter Commission, Andre Fowlkes, is reaching out to all citizens of Memphis asking them help the commission in naming the new metro government — if in fact consolidation of the city and county is approved. With that in mind I reach out to the MemphisConnect community to help “Name that Government”
In accordance with state law [T.C.A. 7-2-108(a)(3)-(D)], the proposed metropolitan charter shall provide the name of the metropolitan government which name may be:
(1) Memphis Metropolitan Government;
(2) Shelby County Metropolitan Government;
(3) Memphis-Shelby County Metropolitan Government; or
(4) Such other name the Charter Commission deems historically and geographically appropriate (ex: Wolf River Metropolitan Government)
To chime in with your choice, please email your feedback to Andre here: Andre.Fowlkes@shelbycountytn.gov
MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
