Theatre Lite, the up and coming South Main theatre company presents  “2 Across” at the Beignet Cafe 124 GE Patterson.  Performances  Mar. 18, 19, 20 & Apr. 1, 2, 3 7:30 pm.  Admission is free, donations happily accepted.

“2 Across” is a comedy of crosswords & romance by Jerry Mayer. Two strangers on a BART train in the early morning hours with nothing in common but the NY Times crossword. She’s a psychologist who follows the rules; he’s a laid-back type who never met a rule he didn’t consider breaking or at least bending. It’s a war of words, but sparks begin to fly when romance blossoms!

Theatre Lite was founded in 2009 by Nashville transplants Myra and Jonathan Stephens.  The shows are performed with minimal sets, scenery, and costumes– all the usual “filler”, in order to awaken the audience’s imagination and ignite the senses.  Their first production “Fairy Tale Confidential” was warmly received and the company is a great new addition to the South Main Arts District.

Performances held upstairs at the Beignet Cafe allow the audience to enjoy dinner before or after the show as well as drinks during.  The Cafe is a destination in itself, serving New Orleans style cuisine in a historical setting– the building was the original home of the Tri-State Defender, one of the longest continually published African-American newspapers in the country.
