SG_Citizen Logo B_type colorDon’t miss “Cultivating Citizens: How Schools Can Promote Civic Engagement in the 21st Century,” a symposium on March 26-27. Organized by St. George’s Independent School in honor of its 50th anniversary and co-sponsored by the Hyde Family Foundations, Rhodes College, and the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools, this event will be of interest to parents, administrators, faculty, and community leaders who are passionate about education. Public officials, local business leaders, and college presidents from Rhodes College, Sewanee, University of Mississippi, and the University of Memphis, will talk about what America needs from its schools. Scholars from Yale and Marquette University will speak about the roots and realities of the achievement gap. And local public and private school leaders will discuss what is needed to prepare students to be engaged citizens in their communities, their nation, and their world. Open to the public, this forum aims to energize all those who are preparing the next generation of civic leaders.  Seating is limited, so please visit www.sgis.org for details about speakers, times, and registration.

I forgot to mention that verification of professional development hours for educators is available. This conference is approved as a professional development opportunity through both Memphis City and Shelby County Schools. See your school’s professional development department for more information.
