Have you ever wondered if you could taking pictures like those cute puppies, menacing storms or picturesque cityscapes that fill your wall calendars? Now you can, courtesy of the Memphis Zoo.

The #1 Zoo in America, as named by international travel website TripAdvisor , has announced that it will hold a photo contest for zoo-goers that will culminate in the best pictures being selected to be placed in the official 2011 Memphis Zoo calendar.

Visitors can submit any photos taken at the Zoo within the last year (since April 2009) between April 1st and May 16th, after which finalists will be chosen.  The finalist pictures will then be posted on the Zoo’s Facebook page for viewers to vote for their favorite, and the Grand Prize includes a free one-year Zoo membership, a $50 gift certificate to the Zoo and featured placement on the cover of the 2011 calendar.

Proceeds from the calendar will benefit the Zoo’s Docent volunteer program. For more information, feel free to check out the contest rules by clicking on the Zoo logo above.

Here’s a golden opportunity for all you aspiring Memphis photographers to prove your worth – let’s see what you can do!
