You may be asking yourself what the heck is Rock-n-Romp.  Rock-n-Romp is is a family friendly concert series started in the DC area that showcases fantastic local musicians and bands, and now has outposts in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Memphis and Philadelphia. Shows are held during the day in a relaxed, kid-safe environment, and while the volume is lower than a typical concert, the music still ROCKS. You may hear a kiddie song every once in a while, but these shows are about the kind of music you listened to BEFORE YOU HAD KIDS.

Kids enjoy the watching the bands, experiment with instruments, dance, or just run around and hang out, and parents get the ever-so-rare opportunity to see a great live show and hang out with other like-minded parents. Romps give parents who miss their social life a chance to get out, enjoy some music that might be new to them, and expose their kids to great bands in a safe, friendly environment. What’s not to love??

The next Rock n Romp is Dec. 5th 2-5pm at 409 S. Main

As always there is a $5 suggested donation for adults only. Kids are free. (Adults must be accompanied by children!)  Traffic may be crazy due to the St. Jude marathon. Use the expressway or Crump Avenue to get downtown. Park at Central Station.  Rock N Romp will be in a large warehouse, so you may still want to bring a blanket or a chair.  You are also welcome to bring a dish to share.

Many thanks to the Center City Commission for providing Rock n Romp with a wonderful space. The Holiday Parade will be passing right by the venue once the show is over, so plan to stay a little late!  They will be recycling again–including beer cups–so please help us by placing your trash and recyclables in the designated containers.

Next Romp is January 16th, 2-5pm at the Center for Southern Folklore

Mark your calendars for their January show featuring Gustafer Yellowgold! He’s coming all the way from Brooklyn just for the show! We’ll also have the Kindergarten Circus from Murfreesboro and Memphis’ own Yazoo Shakes!

For more information, recaps of previous Romps and to subscribe to their newsletter, visit the Memphis Rock-n-Romp website here.

Buck blogs almost daily at BuckDaddyBlog.com where he blogs about being a dad, sprinkled with some product reviews and giveaways, with a whole lot humor and self deprecation.  He also write Rules For My Daughter.
