Two of Memphis’ leadership development organizations are partnering to host “Breakfast with Mayor AC Wharton.” As the newly elected Mayor of the City of Memphis, Wharton will be sharing his leadership vision for our city’s future. The Leadership Academy and Leadership Memphis will host the breakfast at BRIDGES on November 18, 2009 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. The Mayor’s remarks start promptly at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast with Mayor A C Wharton is open to the public. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased via EventBrite below.
As the 64th mayor of the city, much is expected of Wharton, and he is ready to take on the task. “Right now, Memphis is refreshed with the presence of a new leader, citizens are excited about what plans our Mayor has in store for our city,” said David Williams, President and CEO for Leadership Memphis. “The breakfast serves as a chance for Mayor Wharton to share his leadership vision with the community.”Wharton is a 1979 graduate of Leadership Memphis, a member of the first graduating class. He also chaired the board of The Leadership Academy from 1984-1986 when it was still known as Goals for Memphis. Since then, he worked as a leader in the community until he ultimately became the first African-American Mayor of Shelby County. Wharton has agreed to speak about his vision for the City of Memphis and what citizens and community leaders can do to help advance and implement his mission and vision for a greater Memphis.
“Our vision is a greater Memphis continually transformed and renewed by a diverse community of fully developed leaders,” said Nancy Coffee, President and CEO of The Leadership Academy. “It’s thrilling that Mayor Wharton and his administration are fully committed not only to infusing young, fresh talent into city government but also to bringing leadership from the business and neighborhood communities to the table as well—truly a testament to the idea of ‘one Memphis.’”
