daughter and i on carouselHi, My name is Buck, commonly known on the internet as BuckDaddy (or at least on Twitter).  I love and live in Memphis.  I am a parent of a beautiful little girl.  That’s me in a nutshell.  I am going to be writing a weekly feature here at Memphis Connect about what to do with your kids in Memphis.

This is not the end all say all of things to do in Memphis.  Feel free to leave your events or what you plan on doing in the comments?  Also if you have an event and you want it featured in this space, feel free to email me at buckdaddy at buckdaddyblog dot com

This weekend is chock full of events because of my favorite holiday, HALLOWEEN.  Also there are some events in towns outside of Memphis and Mississippi but I didn’t list them, feel free to mention them in the comments.

For younger kids on Halloween Events in Memphis:

  1. Halloween on the Island: Located at Mud Island Island River Park and happening on October 31, children are invited to come in costume to trick-or-treat in a safe environment.  The evening will feature hayrides, haunted train rides, and much more. $2 per person. Rain or shine, 6:30-8:30 p.m. For more info check their website.
  2. SHELL-O-WEEN: On October 31, a SPOOKTACULAR (their words not mine) event with carriage rides, music, a bounce house and films! FREE but $5 donation is appreciated.  Runs form 7pm – 11pm at the Levitt Shell at Overton Park.  Check out their website for more info.
  3. Pumpkins & Paws Festival: A free pet-friendly Halloween festival at the Memphis and Shelby County Humane Society with costume contest for pets and trick-or-treating for kids and pets. There will also be games, free food and drinks, adoption specials for all Humane Society animals, and much more. Running from 11am – 2pm on October 31.  For more info check their website.

For the older kids on Halloween in Memphis:

  1. Mid-South Corn Maze: At the Agricenter International, open through Halloween. The Haunted Corn Maze is open Friday & Saturday nights through Halloween. For more information and a cool picture of what the maze looks like check their website.
  2. Woodruff-Fontaine House Halloween Ghost Tour: Take a spooky tour of the house and learn all about Memphis’ most famous ghost, Molly Woodruff. Tours at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.  Check out their website.
  3. HauntedWeb of Horrors benefiting Youth Villages: Now through Halloween.. This is not for small children. Please read all the information on their web site before taking kids but it does benefit a great cause.  I have been through in year’s past and it is scary.  For more information check out their website. (Heck their site is spooky)

If Halloween is not your thing, things to do in Memphis:

  1. Race For the Cure: On October 31st at the Shops of Saddle Creek.  There is no race day registration so make sure you get over to the race store (say hello to my mom, she’s a volunteer and survivor).  I’ll see you there, possibly sporting a pink mohawk.  Check their website for all the details.
  2. Merry Market Place: An Annual Christmas Shopping event benefiting the Junior League of Memphis.  Each day has a different time so check their website for more information.  Running through October 31st.
  3. Memphis Farmer’s Market: The last week of the season so stock up on some cool weather crops, support local rescue organizations at the Harvest of Hope rescue rally with pet costume contests, enjoy some music and pick up a MFM Cookbook.  Runs from 7am – 1pm.  Located on Front Street and GE Patterson.  Check their website for more information.

What are you doing this weekend?
