What is the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation?
The Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation is an organization committed to aiding Memphis youth through education and mentoring. They have provided funds to sponsor organizations such as the Memphis Athletic Ministries, St. Jude, STAX Music Academy, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. The Foundation’s top priority is the TEAM UP mentoring initiative.
What is TEAM UP?
Team up is the “hub,” or umbrella organization, for many mentoring programs in the Mid-South. The Foundation helps to fund many local mentoring programs, hosts special events, engages local leaders as spokespeople, creates and builds partnerships with groups and individual people, while serving as a “clearinghouse” for volunteer opportunities. Essentially, if someone is interested in mentoring they would approach the Foundation and would be placed in a certain program according to that person’s personality and interests.
Why is mentoring important?
Through mentoring one can improve a child’s self-esteem, convince a child to stay in school, help a child discover new talents and ambitions, improve academic and study skills, lead the way to otherwise undiscovered, and provide moral support and confidence. The impact of mentoring not only is great for the child, but for the mentor as well. There is nothing more inspiring than watching the emotional and spiritual growth of a child before one’s own eyes.
How can I become a mentor?
There are a few ways to show your interest. Visit the website at by clicking here and follow the directions on the page. You can give TEAM UP a call at (901)205-TEAM or send them an email at mentor@grizzlies.com.
What if I don’t have time to be a mentor?
There are many other ways that you can contribute other than mentoring. Encouraging others to mentor, helping to fund a mentoring program, and hosting a mentoring presentation are all ways in which one can help make mentoring stronger in Memphis.
