October 8, 2009 Pat Mitchell Worley
There’s so much to do this weekend, I may explode. For all you people who say there is nothing to do in Memphis, please get over it! Let’s show our best this weekend because there are a lot of folks in town from the AIG conference to Memphis College of Art Alums. I have created a Rock Star schedule for the weekend, but everyone can’t be me. You don’t have to attend everything but make a point to check out at least one thing on the list. And don’t try to use your kids as an excuse to stay home because I put in some killer family activities too.
Thursday night
6:00pm Lucero at the Levitt Shell Free
One of my favorite bands in town will be playing a free show at the Levitt Shell tonight. This is the official CD release party for 1372 Overton Park, their debut on Universal Records which hit the stores Tuesday. The boys head out on the road immediately after and will be gone for 6 weeks and they are taking some of the hottest acts ion town on different legs of the tour. The Lucero Ramblin’ Roadshow and Memphis Revue will be supported by Amy Lavere and Cedric Burnside and Malcolm Lightening on the first stint. Other acts to join include the City Champs, Jack O and tearjerskers, John Paul Keith and 145s, and Dirty Streets. Kudos to the guys for giving other local acts a chance to real new audiences. The ticket prices are low and the shows are many.
9:00pm Skillet Mingelwood Hall
After you leave the shell head over to Minglewood Hall for Skillet. The Ardent records act just released their 7th record and it has been burning up the Christian charts. It debuted #2 on Billboard selling over 67,000 copies its first week and reaching #1 on iTunes. They always put on a greeta live show so try to check it out.
