This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in The Leadership Academy’s Memphis the Summer Experience 09. The activities and social events that I attended through this program allowed me to gain more perspective of the Bluff City. This summer, I worked as a summer graduate assistant for my department @ the University of Memphis. I was able to attend valuable workshops lead by business leaders of the city.
The rooftop reception at the Pembroke Bldg (near Peabody Place) was an excellent adventure. I enjoyed discovering this place and many more. The exploration didn’t stop at the Peabody, I was also invited to Shelby Farms, the Memphis Music Foundation, the beautiful Ornamental Museum grounds that overlooks the river and out to Trolley Night!
I had a great time learning and networking at these events with Memphis’ city leaders and the other interns that came from across the country.

MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
