For the uninformed, Social Camp Memphis is a gathering of social media enthusiasts, thought leaders, networkers, and bloggers interested in all things web 2.0. I was definitely in the building scoring free food, getting my nerd-talk on, and chatting with the one and only, Dave Barger of Lunaweb.

MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
Thanks Rod. If could leave only one takeaway on Facebook for Small Business, it would be to use Facebook as a Relationship medium first and foremost, and not for Sales.
You’re welcome Dave! Relationship medium is definitely the right phrase for Facebook. If people would only apply that to all of their social media activities the world wide web would be a less spammy place to connect.
There were really two big take-aways for me. First and foremost is the thirst for understanding that is out there. Way beyond WHAT is social media, its HOW is media social and WHERE do I fit into it all? The quantity, quality and depth of discussions around “the conversation” was very encouraging to me personally.
The other big take-away is that we are all early adopters and living on the leading (maybe bleeding) edge of social interaction online. There is a big vacuum of not just standards but social media norms. Most of us understand that its rude to interrupt an ongoing conversation in person, but does the same apply in the context of social media and the online world? Great discussion about this especially as it applies to MARKETING! As this medium continues to mature, it will find its own norms and its exciting to be out in front of that process.
For all who attended, I would encourage you to become a resource and thought leader for those around you. Let everyone know you’re involved online and help others find their way in this brave new world.
Thanks to all who organized and worked so hard at putting on one of the best Camps I’ve been to!

What a privilege to be invited to a Social Camp Memphis panel (and huge kudos to superblogger and fellow panel member @BuckDaddy)! I enjoyed that attendees shared so many of their own insights-there was a true dialogue-and I am always impressed by the networking opportunities.
Okay, and powerpoint karaoke was pretty darn funny.
Already looking forward to Bar Camp! You’ll find us in the Blog Haus!
