Ballet Memphis has a community-wide series of events coupled with a competition (complete with celebrity judges) that celebrates the fusion of imagination, joy and collaboration that dance and film can ignite.  It is called Fuse and entries into the competition will be accepted through July 24th.

Ballet Memphis is looking for the city’s undiscovered and top talent in choreography, dance, music, or film.  The Grand Prize winner will have their work showcased as part of the opening of Ballet Memphis’ Abundance: Joyful Noise, February 27, 2010.  Abundance: Joyful Noise will be the first performance for Ballet Memphis at the new Playhouse on the Square.

For details go to the BalletMemphis website to learn how to enter.

Who’s Judging?

Once all of the entries have been received, a panel of local experts including filmmaker Craig Brewer, Erik Jambour with Indie Memphis, Ekundayo Bandele with Hattiloo Theatre, and Dorothy Gunther Pugh and Karl Condon with Ballet Memphis will select the semifinalists.

Prize Progression

All semifinalists’ videos will be posted to Ballet Memphis’ website for community voting. Up to three finalists will be announced on September 12, 2009 at the FUSE party and professional performance at the Ballet Memphis Studios.  The FUSE party officially opens Ballet Memphis’ 2009/10 season. One of these will be selected to premiere at the Abundance opener on February 27, 2010.
