catfishDear Brent -Of all the things I love about Memphis, right up at the top of the list would have to be the widely available selection of catfish based cuisine. My question is how many other great cities have such strong catfish base?

    -Proud to the Gills

Dear Proud -The short answer is…. All of them.

That’s right, Rome, Greece, Biloxi, all the great civilizations have historically been built on catfish

For years the standard assumption among culinary anthropologists was that like agriculture, catfish brought people together behaviorally. That group activities like scaling, breading, and grease-gathering served to band people together for mutual survival.

But recently, reliable sources within the scientific community have confirmed the existence of a “civilization gene” that is activated in humans exclusively through the ingestion of catfish.

News of this discovery was been quickly endorsed by the National Association of Grandmothers, Elderly Neighbors and School Lunch Ladies who lost no time issuing a statement reminding us all of what they have always maintained, specifically: “You are what you eat.”

The political implications of this discovery are so startling that U.N diplomats are already proposing humanitarian “fish-bombings” of Sudan, the West Bank, and other areas deemed “in need of further civilization.”

Although it’s hard to imagine, soon even the most troubled regions of the globe may be able to benefit from the Memphis approach of civilization through fine dining.
