Dear Brent- I’ve loved the Beale Street Music Festival for a long time now, but why does it always seem to get rained on every year?
-Drenched
Dear Drenched - Excellent question. What you are describing is known by meteorologists as Festival Induced Precipitation. The exact causes of FIP are rather technical, but suffice it say that when the low pressure air from countless excited music fans hits the cold front of extremely cool musicians and is agitated by the combined decibel-count of multiple sound systems, all available humidity is wrenched from the air and pressed into immediate service.
Usually as rain.
This phenomenon is not unique to Memphis, I am told by reliable sources that it rained so fiercely upon the original Woodstock festival that attendees were issued scuba tanks as they entered the grounds.
Which of course is yet another way that Memphis is superior to New York.

Drenched just needs to meet my friend umbrella or raincoat.
So based on the festival line up this year, it’s no wonder it poured!!!
Lynn -I think both of your friends made a good showing this year.
Ashbrook -Oh yes, between the stars and the fans this year, I’d say we had it coming.
