On January 1 the Queen of Beale Street, Ruby Wilson suffered a stroke. She is recovering well, and we have every hope that she will be singing again in a few months.
In the meantime, she is having a very difficult time financially.
So, in conjunction with the Corey Osborn Let the Music Play Fund and B.B. King’s on Beale Street in Memphis, the music community is throwing a benefit party for Ruby on TUESDAY, APRIL 21. Festivities start around 7:30pm, and here’s what you can expect:
• An amazing roster of the generous Memphis entertainment community appearing, including:
Bobby “Blue” Bland
The Beale Street Flippers
Brian “Breeze” Cayolle
Joyce Cobb
DeltaCappella
The Dempseys
Kallen Esperian
Billy Gibson
The Kattawar Brothers
Rusty Lemmon
Niko Lyras
Rhoney G
Preston Shannon
Jason D. Williams
…and more to come!
• A raffle for a 65-carat (!!!) ruby, generously donated by Mednikow Jewelers, and other cool items
• A limited-edition CD — “The Best of Ruby Wilson” — on sale that night and available for Ruby to autograph
As much as this event will honor Ruby, it will also pay tribute to the brilliant young guitarist Corey Osborn, who died in a car accident in November. His parents have created a fund to assist Memphis musicians in times of need, and Ruby will be one of the primary recipients of the money raised on April 21.
Please join us tonight for a great night, and bring all your friends. Tickets are $20 at the door, or you can purchase them on Ticketweb.com ( http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=1238794 ).
If you cannot attend this event, you can still help Ruby by sending a check to:
