You may have driven through Saddle Creek in Germantown and seen it, but not know what is was, but on West St., tucked in between Webb Taylor Shop and West St Diner is “Sakura”. Sakura offers a sushi lunch including soup, salad, and several different types of sushi. Nigiri, sashimi, rolls, and even beef or chicken terriyaki are option on the lunch menu. I recommend number 22 on the luncheon menu. It includes a california roll and 6 pieces of Nigiri sushi. YUM!!!!

We like A Tan at Poplar and Highland. It’s grown in the past few years to be a combination Chinese sit-down restaurant and Japanese steakhouse. They have a sushi menu that works out as a nice appetizer for your entree.
Another favorite: Do at Cooper & Young.
SPR or Blue Fin all the way – I am craving the house salad with crab and a house cucumber roll right now! Maybe a spicy Jacksonville too …
Sakura is good.. but SPR’s Wasabatini is the best drink in town.
Rain in Cordova (Germantown pkwy & cordova rd)is pretty good, great bar. This is a new place that was opened few months back.
Hysterical! Please ask me to lunch, soon, Hemant. This only applies if you drink Wasabatini’s at lunch!
I love SPR, too and I am glad that Sakura is getting their props.
Don’t forget Edo on Summer. You can’t miss the futomaki! Sushi on Summer, yeah… and its the oldest Japanese restaurant in the city so give it a try.
I love Sakura as well. They have a great selection of rolls– I recommend the Joyce Roll! :~)
Sakura is the BEST! I used to work in Germantown and frequented it, but now that I am closer to midtown it is less convenient. The rolls are huge and the service is outstanding.
Do in Cooper Young is my favorite by far. I like their slightly unusual offerings. Try the sea urchin if you want something different!
I’ve been a longtime fan of Osaka on Germantown Parkway in Cordova, but their popularity seemed to take it’s toll on their service level. About a block away (next door to Rain that Suresh mentioned above) is Thai Bistro which has recently opened a stunning sushi bar and is a more quiet destination.
Sorry, I’m going to have to disagree with all of you… Marisa that used to roll sushi at Do is now at Tsunami every Monday and Wednesday. She makes THE BEST sushi in town, and in keeping with the Tsunami small plate style, it’s a different offering every week. She is truly amazing, and kudos to Ben for letting her set up shop! (Plus, Tsunami is in the Green Fork program, so you’re helping the earth while eating there… isn’t that truly satisfying??!!)
I have to agree that Tsunami is pretty fantastic – anything from Tsunami is good.
On the sushi note – one of the reasons I love SPR is that I have the discount card. If you don’t have one and like eating at SPR (or any of the Sekisui restaurants I believe) you should definitely ask about signing up!
When I worked at IP my colleagues went to Sakura a LOT after work- there was one particular roll but I can’t remember what it was. Maybe the Joyce roll mentioned above?
I like Bluefin, and they take those Restaurant.com discounts (they also do at SPR and Sekisui). Is that the one you use, Amber?

Maybe it is possible that each sushi place is best depending on the individual diners tastes. I like several sushi bars for their differences. My favorite today happens to be Sakura. If people really meant not to say “I told you so!” They would keep their information to themselves. Me, I love to say “I told you so!” But only to people I know and love that know I am kidding. A restaurant is only as good as its last meal and service.
