It was great to be out at Shelby Farms this morning as Mayor Wharton planted the first of the million new trees going in at the park. That’s enough for each person in the county to have their own tree–and then some! With all the other ways they could have been spending their time, it was also touching to see 300+ students out planting during spring break. Keep it green, Memphis.

MemphisConnect is a partnership between The Leadership Academy, MemphisED and Simple Focus. We provide a gathering place for diverse Memphians to share the opportunities, initiatives and activities that inspire them to make Memphis home.
MemphisConnect is always looking for people who are passionate about Memphis and want to help move our community forward. Get in touch if you have a story for us to share, of if you want to write for us!
Right on, John. While I failed to get my hands dirty, the volunteers had a blast, and got very messy. It was a great day!
The volunteers were able to plant 175 big trees on the south side of Patriot Lake. I can’t imagine a better way to launch the One Million Trees program. By my count, that makes 99,999,825 to go. Who’s ready to plant?
