    After leaving Memphis to run the family business (Industrial Distribution – headquartered in the Midwest), I soon realized several things unique to Memphis that I truly missed:

    Midtown – loved living in Central Gardens and having the most wonderful neighbors and friends. Also, incredible variety of restaurants and several options for entertainment;

    the River – many great memories spending time on the riverwalk, and on the Mississippi itself out boating with friends (watching out for the strong currents, of course);

    the Food – marvelous barbeque, “meat and three” diners, upscale dining and an all-encompassing variety of ethnic restaurants;

    the innate friendliness – they say that Southerners have a natural gift for friendliness, and it is indeed true. Having been born and raised in Memphis, and having lived in other cities, there’s nothing more welcoming than a sincere smile;

    Calvary Waffle Shop during Lent – shrimp mousse with tomato aspic may sound weird – but it’s addictive. Trust me.

    Events – so many things to do at various times of the year for fun and/or for charity: Zoo Rendezvous, Arts in the Park, Crawfish Fest, Memphis in May/BBQ Festival, Cooper-Young Festival, summertime downtown hotel rooftop parties, Greek Fest, Italian Fest, Live at the Garden…I could go on and on.

    Redbirds Stadium – incredible venue for Memphis AAA team – great food vendors too. Good times.

    Orpheum Theatre – Memphis’ Grande Dame of Theatre…Broadway shows pretty much all year ’round and the eclectic Summer Film Series.

    STAX Soul Museum, Pink Palace, Brooks Museum, Dixon Gardens and Gallery, etc etc.

    LIVE MUSIC in Memphis is truly fantastic. You want to hear it? Memphis has it. Used to love the New Daisy and the Hi-Tone.

    Clearly, I miss a lot. Everyone finds a niche in Memphis (or your niche will find you before long). So much variety, so little time!
